From 2016 to 2018, I helped over 1 million subscribers engage with the world’s leading platform for mindfulness. I shaped the product and brand voice, writing for the Headspace app and Headspace.com, as well as email campaigns, social assets, and more.

Newsletter Signup Modal

THE ASK

We wanted to prompt users to sign up for Headspace’s digital newsletter. When the user is browsing our editorial content on web or mobile, it’ll trigger a modal asking them to sign up for the newsletter. The user can then enter their email to sign up or dismiss the modal. The user won’t see this modal again unless they clear their browser cookies.

THE APPROACH

Typically, I’d put the protein of the message into the modal’s header (e.g. “Sign up for our newsletter”) so the user can simply scan the header and then take action. However, it didn’t feel right for our tone. So instead, I broke my own UX rules and just put the benefit into the header: “Have a healthier, happier inbox.”

The modal’s body tells the rest of the story as succinctly as possible.

Holiday Campaign Emails + Social Posts

THE ASK

I worked on two emails and social copy as part of a larger digital campaign for the holiday season. The crux of the campaign was simple: 25% off Headspace one and two-year subscriptions.

THE APPROACH

The first email will target users midway through the holiday season, while the second email will target users after the holidays have wrapped. Social posts and ads run throughout the entire holiday season.

Email Newsletters

THE ASK

To boost readership for our branded editorial content and provide users free non-meditation and meditation-adjacent content, we sent a biweekly newsletter via email. Each newsletter bundled four pieces of content that adhere to an overarching theme.

THE APPROACH

Each newsletter starts with a banner that nods to the overaching theme of the four pieces of content, complemented by a brief paragraph underneath that provides a more thorough explanation. Four pieces of content are linked underneath with additional blurbs to explain what each piece is about if the title doesn’t do so.
